Hello 26!

Today is my birthday! So here is a list of 26 things.

1. I made these for my cake today. They are amazing.

2. Jacob "signed" a card for me, and he got more ink on his leg than on the card.

3. I got a new phone! Finally, after a year and a half of using hand-me-downs after dropping my new Chocolate and stepping on it. Car Toys had the ENV3 on sale, FOR FREE. Dear Verizon, you suck.

4. I'm wearing a little sports headband with my hair in a bun and my mom says it looks cute. So I stole all her headbands.

5. Jayden shared her ice cream with Jacob on Saturday and my heart died from the cuteness. And then I spent the next 24 hours wondering if he was going to get her cough. Still worrying.

6. I tried to make my own pasta with the attachment for my Kitchenaid mixer. It must make it too hot, because the pasta that came out was so sticky and it just melted into itself. We used my mom's old school hand-cranking machine and it was perfect. We should have made more though. Delicious!

7. As hard as this year has been, I'm so grateful to be able to stay home with Jacobey. I'd hate to leave him.

8. We found a toad by the pool this morning. Is that good luck?

9. I need a full apron. I had to pin a tea towel to my dress this afternoon as I was making pasta. Then Jacob pulled it off and I couldn't fix it because my hands were covered in pasta gunk.

10. Wow, 26 things is a lot. Maybe I should stop here?

11. I love how many comments are on my Facebook plank. So many people can come out of the woodwork and wish you well. Maybe they are just bored, but it's still sweet.

12, I'm getting a haircut with my birthday money. It's already getting too long from when I cut it in June. Which was at least 12 weeks ago, but considering I get it cut every six months? That's a short amount of time to go back for a trim.

13. If only I looked good with short hair. I suppose I'm guilty of wanting "mom hair" but it's so annoying to pin back my long, heavy hair everyday.

14. If I wear cleavage shirts, or low-cut dresses, Jacob thinks it's like a buffet and he can sample whenever he walks by.

15. And I'm going to bed now. Maybe the next 11 will come tomorrow!

Jacobey

Jacob is on the verge of speaking. Real words. Where has my baby gone and why is this walking and almost talking child demanding I play with him? (I actually saw a four month old last week and oh my hell, I am never going to have another baby. Those things are too much WORK.)

I'm going to pick out his birthday invitations tomorrow at Target. For his first birthday. In two weeks and one day. He's walking like a champ, not perfect but getting sturdier everyday. He can climb stairs and knows that he's supposed to go down them backwards. He loves to play in dirt, but not sit in the pool. He likes to play in the black tub that doubles as a dog water bowl, once the water has gotten warm from the sun. He's learning to climb on things, like lawn chair loungers and the Dora 4-wheeler.

He eats Cheerios, most fruits and veggies, some meat, and bites of dessert. He can drink out of a bottle, which amuses me to no end. He likes to bite his sippy cup spout and ends up with water all over his body. Chips are his favorite thing, unless you have Cheeto Puffs and then he will eat his weight in orange dust.

He loves the dogs, especially Emma. He likes to feed the pigs, ripping up little pieces of weeds and pushing them through the bars. I make animal noises from him and it rarely fails to calm him down when he's fed up in the car seat.

He can give me kisses, open-mouthed and with tongue. The other day, we swear he said "jacob" and I think he can say "byebye", "mama", "dada", "yay!"

He loves Sesame Street, specifically Elmo and Maury. iPhone commercials are another favorite.

I can't believe he will have his first birthday in two weeks. I cannot believe how much life has changed so much in such a short year. It is so good, even when it's bad. I might have more money in the bank if I didn't have this baby, but I would not know this much joy.

Not Me! Monday

I guess I'm surprised it's been a week since my last confession. Truly, I could probably confess daily. This weekend saw us in Gunnison, CO at a campsite off of Blue Mesa Lake. It was nice, actually. We stayed in a cabin so there was no sleeping in tents. CS and I even got to sleep in the same bed together. I guess God says it's ok to sleep together in a cabin in the woods, just not in the house his parent's own. We had campfires and took the boat out on the lake so the guys could fish. There were 4-wheelers to get from the RV where CS's parents stayed and our cabin, but we certainly did (not) take the baby on one without a helmet. Nor would we try to take a long trek through the back woods with the baby, sans helmet and very much needing a nap. Nor did I forget to pack his body wash, so the only shower he could get was a soak in the pool and a quick dip in the hot tub. Last, but not least, I would never allow Jacob to put on sweatpants that hadn't been washed first, lest he get a horribly return of his nasty eczema.

Also size 4 diapers STILL leak and I'm still ignoring it. When can I start potty training?

Not Me!

I suppose this was a Monday challenge, since MckMama is the one who coined the term "Not Me Monday" but I had a horrid headache last night so I didn't feel much like typing. The reason behind my headache is the hour long walk I took at 10 AM. I try to walk a few times a week but I was not prepared for how long or hard this walk would be. First off, I use Hunter to pull the stroller by wrapping his leash around the handle. Second, the route we went was not my normal route and it was a lot harder. Plus, it was from 10 to 11 AM and while it was much cooler yesterday than today, it was still hot. So I got a headache from walking and it didn't go away until I took 2 Tylenol and 2 Ibuprofen and drank a glass of iced tea for the caffeine, then took a hot shower to get all that into my blood stream. Hey! If drinking a glass of wine while showering can get you drunk, then this will help!

So, anyways. Not Me Monday is for me to (not)admit to a certain parenting failure, or even a non-parenting failure. I have (never) been guilty of letting Jacob sleep in his onsie after his diaper has leaked and there is a large wet spot. Nor have we slept in sheets that also got damp from said leaky diaper.

I really should invest in some size 4 diapers or shell out the money for Overnight diapers from a brand name. But Target is SO FAR AWAY. At least 20 minutes.
