1. What did you do in 2014 that you’d never done before?
We bought brand new furniture! Last January, we finally got to live in this house as a single family unit and it was the best thing ever! This summer, we finally go around to cleaning up the upstairs to make it our space and we painted, cleaned, put in carpet, had the hardwood refinished, and bought new furniture.
2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Last year I wanted to work out more, find some time for myself, and buy a house. I did manage to work out more until it got cold out, I did not get more me time, but we are getting closer to buying the house. For this year, I want to get back to going to church, reading more, and sewing more.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My sister in law had a baby this August!
4. Did anyone close to you die?
No.
5. What states did you visit? (I changed this one, as I will never get to visit one country a year.)
The only place I visited was Las Vegas, again for work. 6. What would you like to have in 2015 that you didn’t have in 2014?
Financial freedom? We had to get into a little bit of debt to get out of a bigger debt, so it's already looking up for us but we need to stay on track.
7. What dates from 2014 will be etched upon your memory, and why?

August 18th, when Jacob started his first day of public school.
8. What was your biggest achievement of this year?
I've been a single parent for a large part of the year when Chris took on a new(old) profession to help end our cycle of poverty. Some things were hard to handle alone, but it wasn't miserable!
9. What was your biggest failure?
I totally failed at Christmas presents this year because I got sick.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
This Fall and Winter have been brutal on Elise and me. We just seem to get sick every other week and it's been miserable!
11. What was the best thing you bought?
A new truck for Chris. I don't like the payments, but it sure makes him happy.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Chris, for being willing to work away from home and when he got laid off two weeks ago, for finding a new job right away, even when it's not something he enjoys doing.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
The Ferguson responses made me pretty sad and angry.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Sallie Mae and Ford Credit.(same as last year! But, next year, we do not owe a single dime to Ford!)

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Going to Vegas!
16. What song will always remind you of 2013?
Shake it off, Blank Space, All About That Bass
17. Compared to this time last year, are you: a) happier or sadder? b) thinner or fatter? c) richer or poorer?
Happier
Thinner, but not by much.
Poorer. But without a giant debt over our heads.
18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Playing with the kids with their toys.(same as last year, darn it.)
19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Yelling. I hate it but sometimes I get so frustrated. (Ditto)
20. How did you spend Christmas?
At home in the morning with just Chris and the kids. Then we went to Chris's parents for the rest of the day. My mom was out of town, so we didn't celebrate with my side until Saturday.
21. What was your favorite TV program?
Nashville, House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Black Mirror
22. What was the best thing you learned? (I changed this question.)
How to make earrings. Honestly, I'm drawing a blank on new things.
23. What was the best book you read?
Outlander, although I haven't been able to start book three yet.
25. What was your greatest food discovery? (I changed this question.)
I didn't have to cook much when Chris was gone and it was amazing. But I did start using zucchini and spaghetti squash instead of pasta.
26. What did you want and get?
Tall black boots. Uggs!
27. What did you want and not get?
A fire pit (again!)
28. What was your favorite film of 2014?
We watch so few movies, I don't even think I saw a new one this year. Silver Linings Playbook was the only one that comes to mind.
29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 31. We went to Manitou Springs and let the kids play arcade games and then waiting for ever for dinner from one place I thought would be amazing and it was only so-so.
30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Having a contract on our house would be nice, but it would be even better if Chris could make good money locally.
31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept of 2013?

I bought my first pair of nice jeans. And now I want more!
32. What kept you sane?
My mom and having a good network of friends to help me when I need it.
33. What political issue stirred you the most?
The Ferguson issues and the issues it raised.
34. Who did you miss?
My grandma in PA.
35. Who was the best new person you met?
Sandra and Nicole!
36. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2014.
Garnishments on your wages are a never ending cycle. Don't buy shit you can't or won't pay for!
37. Show us one
of your favorite photos from the year. (I changed this question. It used
to be about music. Which I don’t really listen to.)

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07557351008969528273noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31044216.post-74944153346847466982014-05-28T16:07:00.000-06:002014-05-28T16:07:24.188-06:00Eleven ThingsBack before I even knew what blogging was, I had a Xanga account, just like all my other friends in college. We all wrote posts and commented on each others and had serious conversations about two other Xanga pages when they started stalking us and making crazy comments on every thing we wrote. Of course, those two crazy people turned out to be one person pulling the wool over our eyes in a genius manner!

But the other thing we did all the time was memes. MySpace was also a good place for those, and while I do not miss MySpace at all, I do have a fondness for memes.

So because Leah tagged me here, I'm playing along!

1. What is your favorite type of cheese?

I like most cheeses (except goat cheese. I've tried it many times. It tastes like a goat's pen and I just cannot) but my favorite would probably be brie. Baked, cold, room temperature, with cranberries, or pears!

2. What are you excited about?
That summer is almost here! I know having kids around with no agenda is stressful for many, but for me, it's more of a break. No rushing to get to school and back to work. I can send Elise and Jacob out to the backyard and let them play in the sand or with the water. Eating lunch on the patio and letting the bunny roam around the car port! Summer means a lot more freedom for us, and we have a great neighborhood for kids.

3. How did you celebrate your last birthday?
We didn't! Which is fine, end of summer tends to be a bit busy for everyone. I worry more about how Jacob will feel if the same business gets in the way of celebrating his day.

4. What is on your bedside table?
A lamp with a classy silicone potholder on top to keep the room dim at bedtime. A Bible, which I am terrible about opening and reading. A pair of headphones for the iPad when I was watching Breaking Bad in bed every night. And a corn warmer for my feet, although it's nice enough now to leave the windows open at night. Finally!

5. What do you order from the movie theatre's concession stand?
Popcorn and a soda. But we split it between all of us, although I do think that the popcorn has gotten to be terrible. Fake butter of the past was much better than the new fake butter.

6. Do you have a garden? What's growing?
We do have a garden! But right now it's only growing weeds. Chris decided that he wanted to pour a concrete curb around it this year, rather than our signature mark of neon orange plastic fencing. It took a very long time to get the trench dug, but it's finally finished and we just need to rotor-till the ground and plant the seeds. I don't see us getting much of a crop this year, but that's ok.

7. Any summer plans?
Getting the kids in swim lessons as soon as possible. Working in the afternoons is very hard in the summer because the pool opens at one. So if we can do morning lessons, I feel better about missing out on pool time. Chris really wants to take a trip to Yellowstone, so we are trying to work that plan out in the next week or so. At least we won't haul a boat that far, unlike last summer's trip.

8. Which TV couple's are you rooting for?
Well, I have a very large backlog of TV to get through. I'm behind on Nashville, Scandal, Mad Men, Modern Family, etc. Mostly because I've been reading (The Passage series! OMG, scary.) and because I hardly have time to sit down to watch it alone. It's not very fun to start a show at 11 PM. Although I will start a sewing project that late because I'm crazy.

9. What's the last thing you bought?
We went to the mall last weekend and I got new undies and 2 new shirts. And fabric to make an apron for a gift.

10. What is one thing you are passionate about?
This one is kind of tricky. I love my job and my kids and my hobbies and usually my husband. But sometimes I get burned out by work, and I yell at my kids too much. I really neglect my husband as I have a lot of jobs to do and as the other adult, he get's the shaft of my attention. I know things will calm someday, but for now it feels like I don't have enough time to be passionate about anything.

11. What are you grateful for this week?
That we've had rain, my kids are happy to be outside, I can go running, and it's a payday week! Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07557351008969528273noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31044216.post-19359382418778506272014-01-02T15:57:00.003-07:002014-01-02T15:57:57.300-07:00Bullet Post1. I got a Fitbit for Christmas from Chris's parents (I asked for it, just FYI. They don't think I need to get in shape.) I think it's awesome, but then I put it on my jeans one day instead of my bra and I WASHED IT. Luckily, so far it's working but I'll grab the receipt just in case it starts acting up. Also, I feel bad for my poor little flower shrinking when I sit down at my desk everyday for work.

2. It wasn't too cold and windy out today, so I brought the kids outside to play. Elise speeds around the yard like a little bullet and I realize how hard winter is on her in our tiny little space. I've been trying to take some time everyday and play with them. There are so many things I can be doing in the house at any given time and I don't always make toys the priority. But right now, we have so many new ones that it would be a good habit to develop.

3. I went to Ikea last week to finally use the gift card I got the year before and the silverware set I needed to buy was out of stock. So I consoled myself with some meatballs and a new pillow. And .99 plastic containers.

4. Hunter ran away on Christmas Eve. It was all my fault, because I let him out to go pee and I forgot to let him back in. I even commented to Chris about how strange it was that he isn't around, since he's been sleeping in Jacob's room on a foam couch. I had no idea the reason I didn't see him was because he was outside. Had I not gone into Jacob's room to turn off the computer, I wouldn't have realized he was gone until morning. Chris drove around looking for him at midnight for almost an hour. I left his bed outside, in hopes that he would find his way home, but we've always found him before so I wasn't sure he knew how to get home. I woke up at 5 AM and checked outside and found him. He was a bit chubby and he moved pretty stiffly from the cold, but he was home.

5. I love the holidays for the time off, but so much of it gets filled up with obligations. However, I did get to go see the Hobbit with Jacob and my aunt and uncle. Jacob told Chris before we left that he "was going on a date with your wife." It was pretty special. Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07557351008969528273noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31044216.post-77777015032678632142013-12-27T15:41:00.000-07:002013-12-27T15:41:19.599-07:002013: In Review I know I haven't posted since MAY, but these are always fun to do and pretty much the only way I'm keeping track of my year at this point.

1. What did you do in 2013 that you’d never done before?
Got MARRIED! June 22nd, and officially on July 1st. Went camping with the children (never again).
2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I did not make any last year, but this year I am striving to be more active, find time for myself again, and buy a house.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No, we all had babies the year before.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
No.
5. What states did you visit? (I changed this one, as I will never get to visit one country a year.)
Nebraska! It's really hard and expensive to travel with a baby and a small child.
Las Vegas for the ABC Kids show with my job. It was so wonderful to hang out with my co-workers. That is the downside to working from home.
Pennsylvania to visit my grandparents. It was over too fast but I really love my Grandma Pat.
6. What would you like to have in 2013 that you didn’t have in 2012?
I'm still waiting on a place to call our own, but the light is at the end of the tunnel. Finally!
7. What dates from 2013 will be etched upon your memory, and why?
June 22nd, because we got married!

8. What was your biggest achievement of this year?
Convincing Chris that we should finally get married. I've been waiting for about 5 years now. Managing to take care of all of us AND work with an active toddler.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Doing too much. I can't do it all but I can certainly try and wear myself out.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I had two bouts of a stomach bug this Spring. One was so bad I had to send Elise and Jacob to Chris's parents and Chris had to come home from work to help me that night. The weight loss was nice but not the helplessness.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
I didn't buy it but I got a leaf blower for Christmas and I am super jazzed about it.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Jacob for being a pretty stellar big brother. Elise for being so adorable and hilarious.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Christians. If you aren't spreading the love of Jesus then you are doing it wrong.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Sallie Mae and Ford Credit.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Going to Vegas! And getting married, but I had three whole nights of not taking care of the baby for Vegas.
16. What song will always remind you of 2013?
Two Black Cadillacs, Whistle Baby, Springsteen
17. Compared to this time last year, are you: a) happier or sadder? b) thinner or fatter? c) richer or poorer?
I can't say I'm happier or sadder, but it's about the same.
Thinner! Baby weight be gone. Almost.
Poorer.
18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Playing with the kids with their toys.
19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Yelling. I hate it but sometimes I get so frustrated.
20. How did you spend Christmas?
At home in the morning with just Chris and the kids. Later we went to Chris's parents and then my mom's. It was a good day.
21. What was your favorite TV program?
Scandal, Breaking Bad, Orange is the New Black, House of Cards, Nashville, Modern Family.
22. What was the best thing you learned? (I changed this question.)
How to make pretzels.
23. What was the best book you read?
I Know This Much Is True.
25. What was your greatest food discovery? (I changed this question.)
I can make Patty Melts and they are the best.
26. What did you want and get?
A FitBit
27. What did you want and not get?
A fire pit
28. What was your favorite film of 2012?
I really liked Catching Fire, but that is the only movie I saw in the theatre.
29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 30 this year. We didn't do anything special though!
30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Buying the house we live in currently.
31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept of 2013?

I was really happy to be back in my pre-Elise clothing. Nothing new, but my body is going back to normal.
32. What kept you sane?
My mom, and sometimes Chris but his idea of talk therapy isn't really the same as mine.
33. What political issue stirred you the most?
It's not political, per say, but I was very upset about the response that the Duck Dynasty comments about homosexuality received.
34. Who did you miss?
My grandma and now that they are gone again, I really miss my brother and sister in law.
35. Who was the best new person you met?
I don't think I made any new friends this year.
36. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2013.
Don't judge people. Easier said than done, I know, but it's really not our place.
37. Show us one
of your favorite photos from the year. (I changed this question. It used
to be about music. Which I don’t really listen to.)
No, not it was not. But yet, those are the most recent photos I have.

Two kids, one almost husband, one wedding, a job, a dog, and a house take up all my time. Although I have read a few books in the last few weeks (Sookie, Robin Hobb's last dragon book, something else that I thought was important and forgot)
We planted our garden last Monday and already the corn, cucumbers, and squash are up. Flowers are starting to bloom and our grass is getting greener. Winter seemed to never end this Spring and suddenly, it's summer and we spent yesterday afternoon at the pool.

Time seemed to go so slowly before I had children. Suddenly, it's 3 days until June and my baby girl is going to be a whole year old. I hear Jacob is turning 5 this Fall and I'm choosing to ignore that. Surely, he's only 3, maybe 4? The other day was cold and snowy, which meant we stayed in almost all day. It also made my bedroom super bright and the perfect place to take a few photos of Elise for a little work project.
Her eyes here are the very best! I mean that more from a photo point than a beauty one, since I've never been great at capturing eyes in my pictures.
So this is where we are at nine months. She is almost to the age where she's been outside as long as she was inside and I have never been more aware of how fast the days go by.

Not only can she pull herself to standing, she has 8 VERY, VERY sharp teeth, and she can say "dada", as well as crawl across the room now.

Jacob may as well have hung the moon for her, despite the fact that he bit her the other day. Yes, he bit her! Because, and I quote: "She almost bit me, so I bit her." I think the key word in that there sentence is almost, my little friend. He also managed to knock a Demdaco angel onto her head this morning when he was trying to throw a Cheerio into something on the mantle and knocked it over. I was blow drying my hair for all of 30 seconds and maybe this is why I should start attachment parenting. Since the 4 year old is proving to be a bit crazy on some days.

But then he proves himself when I need someone to entertain her after she wakes up too early from her nap, and they both sit in the car patiently when I'm gathering all the items we need for an adventure out of the house. He can't wait for her to get bigger and play with him and I can't assure him enough that those days are coming. So much faster than I'd like. A few weeks ago, we had a little dance party before bed right after bath time. You can see the sheen of Aquafor on Elise's head and Jacob's little face is red from the hot water. It almost looks like a sunburn, actually.
I remember when Jayden was three or so, I took her picture and she started posing for me. Quite dramatically, if I remember correctly. Jacob has reached the age where he also poses. It's kind of awesome.
More silly posing.

We've been sick for about two weeks now and I'm hoping that we are all on the mend now. Jacob got sick, then I did, then Elise, then Jacob again, then Elise. Again. She still has a cough and quite the snotty nose but the fever is gone and she's able to sleep at night again. She's night weaned herself for the past three nights, we'll see if it sticks. The other night, Chris got up with her at 4 AM, and she allowed him to lay with her and let her stick her fingers in his eyes and pull his hair. I got to sleep. For the first time ever, I think. Up until now, both Jacob and Elise needed to be nursed back to sleep until they were weaned, for the most part. If Chris didn't sleep like the dead, I'd expect him to do a lot more in the middle of the night. However, I honestly think he might sleep walk and terrible things could happen.

I remain very thankful that Elise hasn't figured out crawling, except of the backwards variety. More free time for me! But then she gets on her hands and knees and gets stuck, so not really. Motherhood is a lot of work, friends.

I'll try to get back and post some crafty things I've done. I sent off three projects without taking any photos! This is what happens when you procrastinate and then have to rush. No photographic evidence.

This was Elise's smile during the holidays. I suspect it is due to the two teeth poking out of the top, since she has since stopped the cheesy, nose-crinkling smile. It was the best, and we all miss it.

She is now 7 months old and on the very cusp of crawling. The last month was practically blissful, as she was content to sit up and play with her toys for long stretches of time. Occasionally, I'd have to pick her up after an accidental face plant, but she has great head control. Now, she is reaching and moving her legs back which leads to compromising positions that almost always involve some help from me. Freedom, I hardly enjoyed it. Now we will have to baby proof in earnest, I suppose? Mostly just Jacob's room will be off limits and I will need a gate for the stairs. We never had to do this for Jacob!

Elise is ready for some solids, but she hates purees so I've been testing the waters of baby led weaning. Although last night I put a spoonful of rice in her mouth and we are just not there yet. She does like pickles, french fry waffles, rib bones, and will occasionally chew on a broccoli floret. But she wants everything I have and clearly we need to re-vamp our menu to accommodate that girl.

I left her in the church nursery this past weekend and I think she was in complete heaven as there were 4 or 5 pre-teens watching over her. They were all enamored, one girl asked if she was always this happy.

Yes, yes she is.

1. What did you do in 2012 that you’d never done before? Had a natural labor. It's something I always wanted to do in having my children, although I really wanted those drugs when I was in the midst of it. But looking back, I am so happy I didn't have the time for the epidural. It makes me feel like a superhero.

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I
did not make any, and I don't have much of a goal for the next year.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth? Yes,
me! Along with quite a few people I know online, as well as in real life.

4. Did anyone close to you die? No.

5. What countries did you visit? None, again.

6. What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012? A
place to call our own. (2012) We did not get a place of our own, however, life became so much easier and happier here when the girlfriend upstairs moved out.

7. What dates from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? June 15th, Elsie was born, September 5th, Jacob started preschool/

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Finding our groove as a family of four. The first few months were rough, even though Elise was still a sleepy newborn. I was working, Chris was working AND going to school, and I just felt that there was so much on my shoulders.

9. What was your biggest failure? I can get short with Jacob over things that aren't a big deal. I need to spend more time teaching him the correct way to act in certain situations, rather than get frustrated.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Just one cold, which has left Elise with a rash from the anti-biotics and I'm hoping we are both safe from thrush.

11. What was the best thing you bought? My
iPad! That thing was my lifesaver when Elise was born. I could nurse and entertain myself, or pass it off to Jacob to play with when I needed him to stop acting like a crazy person.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration? Jacob. He has been the best brother a little sister could ever have. He loves to entertain her after her nap, he wants to talk to her when I change her diaper, and he can make her laugh the loudest. I would have a million kids just to watch them all become older siblings.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? The girl that used to live here. I do not have any tolerance for people that create emotional distress for their children.

14. Where did most of your money go? Sallie
Mae, same as last year. Also to the doctor for our co-pay.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? Having a BABY. (2011) I'd say that her birth was the best thing that happened all year long.

16. What song will always remind you of 2011? Call Me Maybe. What, it's catchy!

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder?
b) thinner or fatter?
c) richer or poorer?

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Spent more time working out. (2011) I am not really disappointed in this, because I have so many other things on my plate and it's so cold out, but I do wish I had the time and energy to work out. Maybe if we lived somewhere with a gym that offered childcare, but that's not an option here in Small Town USA.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of? Honestly, not much comes to mind.

20. How did you spend Christmas? Chris had to work Christmas day, so we celebrated as a family on Christmas Eve morning. We opened presents and played at home for a bit before heading to my mom's house for a couple of hours. Unfortunately, Elise had a horrible rash that we were worried about, so we took her to the ER that evening. Luckily, it was nothing serious and we were able to go visit Chris's parents later.

21. Did you fall in love in 2011? Yes, with my whole little family. I love watching Chris be a daddy to Elise and Jacob. Everyday, I fall in love with Elise and Jacob.

22. What was your favorite TV program? Nashville!

23. This question has been deleted because it’s SOOO teenage emo Xanga shit.

24. What was the best book you read? I really liked Gone Girl and I spent many hours working my way through The Lord of the Rings.

25. What was your greatest musical discovery? That I could listen to Nashville on Spotify?

26. What did you want and get? A Vera Bradley duffle bag. I've been coveting them for years, and I am so excited for our trip in January.

27. What did you want and not get? I wanted my car to work for at least another year, but it just couldn't last!

28. What was your favorite film of this year? I don't think I saw anything in the theatre this year! I watched a lot of Netflix, and I am really excited for The Hobbit.

29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? I
turned 29, and I went about my day as usual. Chris had to work that day, and we didn't make any post b-day plans.

30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? A
new place to live! (2011) SAME THING!
31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2011? First 6 months: Maternity clothing. Last 6 months: Nursing tops (must be long in the torso) and a pair of Gap Jeans.

32. What kept you sane? Chris, most likely.

33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? I think that quote from Morgan Freeman about not allowing the media to make mass killers into celebrities made a good impression on me.

34. What political issue stirred you the most? I
got very angry about the so called Christians around me that are hell bent on the immorality of gay marriage, abortion, homosexuality, etc. As a whole, we are called to love those that don't know Jesus. That's it. We do not get to judge! I wish Christians would work to simply love non-Christians, instead of alienating them.

35. Who did you miss? My Ohio friends. (2011) Ditto. The weekend I spend in Ohio was so much fun, I wish I could do that every month.

36. Who was the best new person you met? I
think my neighbor Alex. She was my little source of refuge when being at my house was miserable and she helped me many times with Elise when I had to work.

37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2012. That we can live in the most miserable circumstances and still enjoy our time at home as a family. I can only show you one thing I'm working on because my mom reads this and the other items I've made are for her.

Now that I'm looking at the photo, I'm not sure I like it but I am out of animal print fabric so I would have to have trek to Joann's and I really don't want to do that. We may have to start over, folks! Jacob continues to be the best helper. He has his moments, sure, but for the most part? He is a great big brother. Elise usually wakes up before him and as soon as she sees him (next to us in bed, because OF COURSE) she has a big grin on her face. I didn't do the November thankfulness meme, but if I had, I'd be thankful for our king sized bed because it allows all four of us to sleep, although I'm pretty sure Chris gets the smallest corner. But he sleeps like the dead so I don't think he even knows most of the time.
We are just on the cusp of mobility and we can technically start solids any day now. The past six months have just breezed right by and I can't believe that a year ago I was still suffering from morning sickness and stressing over what I was going to do with a baby and my job. *Spoiler* It all worked out! Some days are better than others, but it's pretty peachy no matter what happens. Most days I feel our little family is complete and we are so lucky to have what we do.

Now, just wish my mom luck tomorrow when she is watching baby girl and putting her to bed with a bottle. No worries, I'm taking my own car so I can leave the AMR holiday party if I have to and nurse the little precious. See what I give up for you, baby girl? Delicious food and a cocktail. Lucky girl. We had our quilting guild Christmas swap this weekend. Such a change from last year, as I remember driving up on a Monday night, it was already freezing cold and I was horribly, horribly nauseous with morning sickness. This year it was 70 degrees or so and sunny! In October, we had been assigned swap partners and I was paired with the lovely Marta. She sent me a link to these Polaroid blocks and DONE!
I think the fox is my favorite, but no surprise, as I have been on a bit of a foxy kick lately.
Well. I lasted 4 days of NaBloPoMo. Go me!

I did haul out the camera on Sunday to try and create a Christmas card photo because a company called Minted was offering $25 off plus free shipping on holiday cards. However, in order to apply that code, I had to have a total of 100 cards so the cost of my order was above $50 and I simply do NOT need more than 25 cards. I would be absolutely buried to ship out 100 holiday cards. I would be handing them out on street corners, honestly.
So, instead, I have a nice collection of my goofy children in theme clothing. I just need a Shutterfly Groupon to grace my email and BAM. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year!

I just need someone to edit out those drool marks on Elise's onesie and figure out how to get Jacob to stop squinting his eyes when he smiles. Superglue? Jacob loved it and is normally a very somber and serious Batman.
So. Leg warmers.

Anyone with a baby needs these. Especially cloth diapered babies! Because pants don't always fit well with the cloth diapers, this keeps legs warm and makes for easy changing!

I got a pair of knee high socks from Target, I believe that they were $1.50. So dirt cheap. I cut off the heel and the toe, making two tubes: one short and one long. I flipped the short one inside out, sewed a half inch or so, to make it smaller, then flipped it right side out. I then put the wrong sides together to make a cuff and slipped the longer tube inside and sewed through the three layers to make a cuff. In theory, this should make the leg warmers stay on better, but they still slip around a bit so I need to make the cuff smaller next time.

This took me less than 5 minutes and was way cheaper than paying $9 for a pair from other companies. Sure, they may get a bit frayed, but I can always use an excuse to go to Target, am I right?
I'm going to attempt to keep up with National Blog Posting Month. I actually have a goal to take a photo a day and post it here. I'm beginning to feel bad that Elise is almost never in a photo and the fact that I have a nice fancy camera and almost never use it.

So hold me accountable!

I may only have one Halloween themed photo of the two of them, but it's a great one!
I'm going to attempt to write up a little thing about these leg warmers. All you need is a pair of knee high socks and you can have a super cute pair of baby leg warmers!
Baby toes are the best, are they not? Today was one of those days, so I asked him some questions.

What is your favorite show?
Team Umizoomi

What is your favorite color?

Green, um, maybe blue? (note, it's really pink) What's your favorite color, mom?

What is your favorite Fresh Beat Band person?
Twist. And that girl. (which one, Kiki or Marina?) Kiki.

What is your favorite movie?
Mom, we did that one already.
No, I mean a movie, not a TV show. Like Finding Nemo, Monsters, Despicable Me?
Finding Nemo!

What is your favorite song?
Fresh Beat Band!

That is not a song. I mean like Bumblebee, or the alphabet, or Twinkle Twinkle.
Um, I don't know. Can you sing Twinkle Twinkle?

Then I had to sing him some songs.

We went to the zoo over a month ago. But you know how life goes after having a baby! And working! It's kind of insane how little time there is and how very fast the days go by.

Baby girl was in rare smiley form after lunch. She would also prefer to be carried, thank you very much.
We (well, I was only there for 10 minutes or so) spent at least 30 minutes in the Budgie room, feeding some of the birds. This one was hand raised by the birdseed girls last summer, so he would actually let you put him. The rest thought it was a terrible idea, but a few would allow you to nudge them onto a stick so you could walk around with them.

Luckily, no one got pooped on.

Chris took ONE MILLION photos at the zoo but it was nice to have a good set of photos since that is something else I suck at doing post baby. I hear life will eventually be a lot easier, in 9 months or so? June is just going to pop right up, isn't it? Then I won't have a baby anymore and she will be too big to be called a baby.

I'm totally kidding. She is the baby forever.

Just like Jacob. Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07557351008969528273noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31044216.post-40020085459547491942012-09-13T17:13:00.001-06:002012-09-13T17:13:41.239-06:00The Big 4

Oh Jacob. I wish I knew where the last four years have gone. I know they have been awesome, mostly because of you. You are still a very emotional boy, and while it drives me crazy sometimes about the things that make you cry, it's also nice that you still need someone to comfort you.
You started Pre-School just two days before your party and there were no tears over me leaving you. You went and played with the trains, amid all the kids in your class, after kissing me goodbye.

You still have an adorable speech impediment, saying "w" for your "l" sounds and I know eventually that will fade away. You like to tell stories about silly things and play with your millions and millions of tiny cars.

You have a new bed, a bunk bed, that I'm only about 80% sure you are going to sleep in all night long so we have to turn on your "tiny lights" in case you decide to climb out in the middle of the night, all fumbling and bleary eyed.

You have become the best big brother, although as I write this, you tried to pull Elise from her crib and make her cry. You like to make her laugh, even when you can't keep your face far enough from her eyes so she can actually see you. You share your blankets with her, even though you want me to give you the old, broken trash can that I am using to hold her dirty diapers because you think it's yours. I have no idea why, because it's old, cracked, and smells like ammonia.

You came in and told me your first joke the other day, when you tried to convince me that Hunter had eaten the bottle of slime you bought at the zoo. I had to ask you several times if Hunter really had eaten it, before you cracked a huge smile and admitted you were joking.

You are the very best, Jacob, and I love you so much. Even when I have to tell you for the hundredth time to stop yelling because your sister is sleeping.

Bonus shot of Elise: She really likes boobs, OBVIOUSLY!
I don't know why she looks freaked out here, but she was being a happy and smiley girl until I brought out the camera.
This baby girl, oh, she is so sweet. Maybe a bit of a mama's girl but only because mama has the milk. She likes to go to sleep in her crib, alone and she sleeps almost all night long. She'll smile at Jacob, and likes to coo at the Fox in the painting above her changing table.

She can finally focus on the little stuffed animals on her bouncer and will spend 20 minutes there, talking to them and trying to grab them. She likes baths in her bucket tub and oddly tries to put one foot up out of the water every time.

It's so much work to have her and at the same time, it's really nothing at all. I can't believe 2 months have gone by and I want it to slow down and speed up all at the same time! So. Things are moving right along.

My maternity leave ended and I started back in July. It was mostly self imposed, as I could have taken up to 10 weeks, I believe. But working from home isn't really that bad and we'd probably be home anyways while she napped! I'm only back 3 hours a day, instead of the 4 I intended but I'm planning on adding an extra hour in during the mornings. If I can only get up before 9!

Elise is growing like crazy and I believe she weighs about 13 pounds now. She's started to smile at us and it pretty much kills me dead every time. Gummy baby smiles are like crack. This is why people have more than 2 kids!!

I don't think I'm going to have more than this though. It's a lot of work and I am not getting any younger.

Jacob has adjusted to having her around and he's now into asking to hold her a lot. She doesn't seem to mind for the most part, but it's only for a minute or two. I think Jacob gets bored if she doesn't try to suck on some part of his arm or face.

We're all sleeping well and I'm eating like crazy, darn nursing hunger, as well as getting out of the house more. Jacob is in a sports camp for a couple of days the next few weeks and he's certainly enjoying it.I tried to get him into a preschool, but it turns out that if you aren't poverty level poor, you have an education, you weren't 18 when you had him, and he's too smart? They don't let you go to pre-school early. I feel horrible because I thought we would be accepted, no problem and Jacob desperately wants to go to school. We are on a waiting list, so we'll see. Maybe there is a chance!
We went camping for the 4th of July. I say "camping" because we stay in a fully furnished little cabin with running water so it's not quite camping. I don't really do camping, even sans 2.5 week old babies. We drove up to Gunnison, which is a couple hours away and about 20 degrees cooler. I'm now considering summering in the mountains, just to get away from the relentless heat we've been dealing with the last few weeks.
Elise did pretty good on the drive up, although she hates the carseat as much as Jacob did. Jacob did much better in his brand new big kid car seat. However, when he falls asleep in the new seat, his head flops over and I worry he is going to choke himself on the seatbelt. I resorted to stuffing pillows on his lap, which is was quite delighted with when he woke up.

We did a whole lot of nothing while we were up there, although we ventured out a few times to visit a hatchery, do a little fishing on Papa's boat, and drove up to Crested Butte for an afternoon. It was nice to get away, since I don't have many opportunities to do so.
I have to admit that I am already dreading going back to work. It's so nice to just be at home with the kids and have no obligations. I do love my job but life without one is pretty great. We'll make it work though.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07557351008969528273noreply@blogger.com0
